there's going to be a lot of brouhaha and posturing over this issue again if this will push through :-)

though am not pro-American, I'd like to think I can be open-minded enough to welcome this kind of move also...in return baka naman ma-upgrade pa tong mga ports and airfields etc.

There is that Pinoy pride again - I guess we need to get on with reality. We need the US especially with China getting aggressive on the Spratly Islands. Most of the people who are posturing naman are the ones who would want to come here in the US anyway. There is so much hypocrisy. Besides as you said they will have to upgrade our facilities to suit their demands. It can only help our economy.

All for it..the best thing that can happen to the PI, their military arsenal is so antiquated in comparison to China. I say, stop the hypocrisy and admit that THE PI NEEDS US INTERVENTION, NO WAY THEY CAN DO IT ON THEIR OWN IF AND WHEN CHINA GETS AGGRESIVE WITH THEIR CLAIM ON THE SPRATLYS.

I just hope they stay off Batanes although China might misread their presence there - it being so close to them - but I just want Batanes to remain the way it is - unspoilt.

I remember yung old base don sa Batanes (if I remember correctly na old base yon at hindi school) na na emptied out long time ago..

I hope Batanes won't be affected too much by this if this pushes through

Interview with Vice Admiral A. Pama of the navy, as he eloquently explained why more military presence is needed in the Philippine seas - not as an arm race with the bullying China, but rather to protect Philippine territories.

He and his wife Carlette and I were classmates years ago in UP Iloilo before he went on to PMA.

I have no audio here at home so I couldn't play it but whatever the reasons for the request the Phils. could never afford to go on arms race with China. It is only China who could do that against the US since Japan is not in a position to do that.

In a nutshell, what the Philippine Navy is doing with its purchase of the Hamilton class ship from the US is to use the ship to patrol and protect its territories for longer periods of time without docking. Areas such as the Spratley Islands and territories from the north to the southern seas in a speedier patrol will be covered. There is also a plan to purchase more of the same class ship/s in the very near future.

That is good, it is time China stops bullying her smaller neighbors.
